INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

Last week the DLG team bid farewell to our winter interns Faizah Kader, Kagiso Mabutho and Tashatha Mangubo, who return to university to undertake the final lap of their studies. Recounting their experience and their key learnings over the 3 months, the ladies expressed their gratitude for the exposure and the opportunity to improve their knowledge and appreciation of the Corporate/Commercial and Litigation legal landscapes in Botswana.

“My experience at Desai Law Group has not only opened my eyes to the splendours of the law but has also fuelled my passion for the profession. I am grateful to have been working beside a diligent group of attorneys who serve as a daily inspiration in my pursuit of legal excellence. The late former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the USA, Ruth Ginsburg once said, ‘I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability’. I too share the same aspirations and intend on working tirelessly to fulfil them,” said Tashatha.

“I’ve become a better person as a result of the internship opportunity. I have been able to evaluate my abilities and pinpoint my strengths and weaknesses. It has given me a chance to learn and develop many other skills of communication, office etiquette and presentation of work. It was a good networking opportunity. The internship program has been incredibly instructive for me, I’ve been able to learn a lot and apply what I’ve learned in theory into practice. This has also helped me decide what direction I want to go in law as I have developed a passion in practicing corporate law,” Faizah added.

For her part Kagiso believes she learnt valuable skills that will position her uniquely as a law graduate, and looks forward to joining the world of Legal Practice with all the skills she acquired. “The internship taught me various skills like teamwork, time-management, maintaining a controlled environment with your co-interns, and patience. As an intern, I also had the chance to develop skills that would be useful for my future professional path, such as logical acumen, articulated writing style, speaking skill and legal research,” she said.

DLG wishes Kagiso, Faizah and Tashatha well on their journey to complete their studies, and looks forward to engaging with them further in the future.
