DAY 1
Desai Law Group officially commenced The DLG Future Lawyers Programme this week. The programme is aimed at high school learners, specifically forms 4 to 6 and the goal is to provide learners with important information about a career in law. The programme is one week long and will be facilitated by a combination of Associates and Candidate Attorneys.
Six high school students are taking part in the programme. Below are some of the key things witnessed by the interns on the first day and as written in their own words:
“On our first day, we were split into teams and I was shadowing Operations Department. I learnt that Operations is the “behind the scenes” department of DLG. From Logistics to Accounting, Registry and Graphic Design I learned a lot about the people who have jobs that you would not really focus on immediately upon hearing the words “Law Firm”. Then we had an interesting presentation by Larona Somolekae who presented on Corporate Law. She covered the skills and attributes that a Corporate Lawyer needs, and why it is important, for example helping the economy grow. She explained different areas of corporate practice like Commercial Law, Banking and Finance, Competition Law, and day one was amazing”. – Gugulethu Ndlovu.
“From the get go we were treated like Professionals. A myriad of technical terms thrown at us, forcing me to constantly keep up and ask questions. I was always learning. We explored the nuances of Contractual Law which makes me appreciate the beauty of its subtleties. I am grateful for the constant intellectual engagement through spontaneous discussions and negotiations outside of the official agenda”. – Yeutong Zhang
The attorneys in charge of the programme are, Itumeleng, Pusetso and Imaan.
