DLG Accompanies Operation Starfish for Malwelwe Shoe Campaign

On Saturday 8th April, a trip was embarked on to Malwelwe Primary School in Kweneng district and arrival was at 10:30 in the morning. The travelling team comprised of Operation Starfish, DLG Team, Team American and Topoyame Makoi, a technician from the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources. His story is quite inspirational as he was a student at Malwelwe Primary School from 1990 -1996.

Our agenda included primarily the donation of shoes and food. We had a total of 893 pairs of shoes donated by students from various schools, DLG staff and other kind individuals. There present at the gathering was the Chief of Malwelwe village, the VDC Secretary, a PTA Chairperson, a PEO II representative, the School Principal and a few media representatives.

We also gave uniforms and toiletries to 4 best performing PSLE students from the class of 2016. This is important to note as these students achieved A’s in their exams. This is highly commendable as Malwelwe has never achieved more than one A in a PSLE examination year.
